About

School Sport Partnerships are families of schools that receive additional funding from the Government to come together to enhance sports opportunities for all young people through the curriculum, out of school hours learning (OSHL), inter and intra school competitions, school-club links and through leadership & volunteering opportunities.

The North West Surrey School Sport Partnership went live in 2003 at which time it encompassed 25 Primary and special schools and 5 secondary schools in Woking . In September 2006, the NWSSSP doubled in size, incorporating schools in the Surrey Heath area. The partnership now encompasses 63 Primary and special schools and 9 secondary schools.

In September 2008, Woking College joined the NWSSSP. They have committed to develop the provision and opportunities for young people attending the college, and hope this will ensure their students enjoy a lifetime participating in sport and physical activity.

The NWSSSP was the first live partnership in Surrey however all maintained schools in England are now involved in the programme, grouped into 450 different SSP ’s.

Our partnership team consists of a Partnership Development Manager (PDM), School Sport Co-ordinators (SSCo’s), Primary Link Teachers (PLT’s) and a Further Education Sport Co-ordinator (FESCo).

A PDM is a full-time role usually based within a Sports College . They manage the SSP and develop strategic links with key partners in sport and the wider community.

An SSCo is based in a secondary school and concentrates on improving the quality of PE within their school as well as wider school sport opportunities, including out of hours school learning, intra and inter-school competition, school-club links and leadership & volunteering, across a family of schools.

PLT’s are based in Primary and special schools and aim to improve the quantity and quality of PE and sport in their own schools.

A FESCo is based in a Further Education College and will co-ordinate and develop College based enrichment activities related to participation in sport (including volunteering), inter and intra college competition, the positioning and development of the college gifted and talented provision within the overall player pathway and establishing links with community clubs and other sports providers in the wider community.
